The Hellenic Rescue Team to host the World Alpine Rescue Convention in Greece
Date: 15/11/2019
More than five hundred delegates from all over the world are expected to take part in the World Alpine Rescue Convention, which will be hosted by the Hellenic Rescue Team in Thessaloniki, in October 2020.
It is the very first time that this specific event will take place in Greece and will be hosted by a voluntary organisation. This not only emphasizes the necessity to support Alpine Rescue in Greece, but also the role of volunteers in supporting mountain search and rescue operations. Apart from the proposals and presentations given during the main sessions of the Convention, the programme also includes an alpine rescue demonstration which will be carried out on Mt. Olympus with the participation of members of the Hellenic Rescue Team as well as other Rescue Team members from abroad.
During the Convention all the latest developments in the field of Alpine Rescue will be presented both on a technical and procedure level as well as materials, innovative technology and Pre - Hospital Care and First Aid. The accident statistics and the analysis of incidents hold a major role in the presentations. The central theme of the October 2020 Convention workshops focuses on "Search and Rescue in Avalanches".
The Convention will be held at the "Grand Hotel Palace" from 13th to 17th October 2020.
It should be noted that the Hellenic Rescue Team is the only organisation in Greece that has been a member of the "International Commission for Alpine Rescue" (ICAR) since 2007.
